Shooting the album cover for Chicago singer Marcus Matteo’s debut EP Break Free was fun to say the least. It must have been the first time I photographed someone cutting off their own clothes.
A few weeks ago I had the great pleasure and honor of spending the lunch hour chatting with Simeon Hendrix, and recording an interview for his Steady Focused web series. Which covers photography, filmmaking, lighting, lenses, cameras, etc…. discussing how to identify weak points, overcome struggles, how to succeed and how to live a fulfilled life. Their most important rule is to work hard, love yourself and have fun!
As a Chicago music video director, I am always striving to hone my craft by using news tools and techniques. My latest music video for Marcus Matteo was my first 4k project and I shot it almost exclusively in 4k DCI with a Canon 1D X Mark II camera.
Caleb Minter asked me to create a black & white music video for his single ‘Gone Too Soon,’ which is dedicated to his older brother Clarence Minter Jr. who was killed by gun violence.
The mood of the song ruled the day when it came to coming up with the art direction for this video. Long cuts, smooth movement and soft yet dramatic lighting was used to bring out the emotion’s of Marcus Matteo’s voice and the precision picking of guitarist Daniel Peters.
