My colleague Jeff Haynes asked me to be the Lighting Director for the new Joliet Slammers professional baseball teams’ first television commercial. Not only is the commercial about to debut, so will the Slammers on their first opening day May 19th, 2011.
The marketing team of the Slammers came up with a story board and once the scene was lit, the local lock-up really came to life. By placing the lights near the ceiling, I was able to create great patterns with light passing through the cell bars, casting shadows everywhere throughout the scene. Around the 13 second mark you see a bat strike the bars three times in a row… it was during this shot I noticed the unexpected shadows on the walls, which changed the sequence and the feel of the whole project.
