I’m not here to talk about champagne, a large hand gun or the extra long wagon version of the Dodge Charger.
What I’m talking about is the Profoto Magnum Reflector (right), a recent edition to my catalog of equipment which keeps growing and growing thanks to my constant quest to do bigger and better things. Measuring 13.5 inches wide and 10.5 inches deep, the metallic lined modifier creates harsh shadows and brilliant highlights.
For this Chicago B&W Fashion Photography shoot, I decided to go with monochromatic styling against a white wall to create contrast in addition to the contrast created by the reflector. I also decided to roll out this technique when I heard models Royce K and Unique L were slated for the shoot, because their darker skin tones would be able to hold more detail under this type of lightning.
For this headshot of Royce, below, I used a beauty dish and two strip lights to separate the off centered model from the background.
