Chicago LGBT Wedding Photography: Last week I updated my website to include a new Chicago LGBT Wedding Photography section, with over a hundred new photos of brides and grooms tying the knot.
The weddings I had the privilege to witness over the summer covered a range of emotions and locations. There were great moments and particularly memorable were Pete & Mike’s Lake Michigan reception and this moment below with Bob & Louis right after their ceremony.
I’m looking forward to next year’s weddings and capturing great photos that my clients can cherish forever.
Louis & Bob
Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ & Germania Place, were the perfect backdrops for the LGBT wedding of two amazing people, Louis & Bob. Though we only met once before the wedding, we had a great rapport which led to making some great photos. I love the look of the old church and the warm tones of the reception space.
“I found John online when we were looking for photographers for our July wedding. We looked at a number of different sites, but we were both really drawn to John’s work as posted on his web-site. We contacted him, via e-mail, and immediately found him to be responsive, friendly, and easy going. We set up an appointment to meet him soon after.
If you want a photographer who is going to take the standard, posed, multi-grouped wedding photos, John may not be your guy. Not that he doesn’t take photos of any groupings etc. that you request, but his real talent lies in getting beautiful candid shots throughout the event. We asked him to take a few posed, close-up photos of our ceremony (because we requested he stay behind the guests at the ceremony so as not to cause disruption), and then a few posed family groupings. After that, we just let him go on his own. He was so calm and easy going…most of the time you didn’t even know he was there. He captured all the happenings (cake cutting, toasts, first dance, etc.) but more importantly to us, he captured so many wonderful candid moments and faces of family and friends. I have beautiful shots of them that I truly can’t wait to share with them because their faces are so filled with emotion. I was also concerned that our photographer be comfortable shooting photos at a gay wedding, as I wanted them to show the real love and emotion in our relationship, and some photographers are just not yet comfortable enough to know how to do that. Not a problem with John. He has had much experience shooting gay weddings and it shows in the depth of his work.
I think you will also find that John is not a high pressure salesman after the event. He is always friendly, helpful, quick to respond, timely, makes a nice appearance, polite and accommodating. If you have viewed his work on-line, it is a true and honest representation of what to expect. He has all my respect, admiration, and appreciation for a job well done.” Louis & Bob

Chicago LGBT Wedding Photography The blazing sunlight shining through the stained glass windows of the church as well as the late afternoon sun skimming off of the gentle swells of Lake Michigan helped to make for a beautiful photography showcasing their momentous day.
“Best decision we made for our wedding – hiring a good photographer! Thank you John Gress. Even when planning our wedding across country, and then across continents while moving internationally, John was there for us, organized, professional and ready. Our day went without a hitch and of course it was a blur – thankfully John was there to capture all the moments that we will now cherish and look back on! The candid, “live†moments so expertly taken throughout the day are fantastic. Great work for your great memories!” – Pete & Mike
