Back in my day, when you were arrested you were handcuffed! Ok, I’ll stop sounding like a grumpy old man. It was kind of funny yesterday covering a school closing protest in downtown Chicago, because the police had taped off an area, which 150 people walked into and sat down and prepared to be arrested. The police then had them stand up, place their hands behind their back and then line up down the street to receive a ticket.
When I lived in Portland the Police would pepper spray people, including me and choke them while cuffing them.
In Chicago I have seen them forcibly remove protesters as well like this 2004 gay marriage protest.
Thousands march to protest proposed school closings

(Reuters) – Thousands of demonstrators rallied in downtown Chicago on Wednesday to protest the city’s plan to close 54 public schools, primarily in Hispanic and African-American neighborhoods.
The closings, which the school board plans to vote on in May, would be the biggest one-time shutdown ever by a U.S. city. Wednesday’s demonstration, organized by the teacher’s union, drew parents, students and other critics of the plan.
