Headshots: Cosette Tomita’s Compcard

I am always searching for new ways to light my subjects, and with every shoot, I seek to perfect my technique. Recently I started using a Westcott ‘7 Parabolic Umbrella. After a few test shoots, I rolled out the umbrella for this headshot with teen female model Cosette Tomita. Using a giant softbox overhead to give Cosette’s hair a little kick and some overhead fill, I had the model strike several different poses, including this jumping shot below.

I recently developed a new technique using aÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â Westcott ‘7 Parabolic Umbrella and a giant 4.5×6″ Chimera soft box.

Headshots: Commercial Model Keisha Clark

To show some of Keishas energy, I decided to have her jump on my studio rooftop.

I placed all of my lights on one side for this frame to give a wrap around affect.

Once shooting in the studio was complete, we headed over to some modern buildings to give Keisha's compcard a variety of looks.

I love how the lines in the background frame this shot.

I used three Keno Flo florissant lights to capture this headshot. Next time I think I'll try five light sources. I know a lot of photographers stick to a formula, but I am always trying to innovate.

Baby Doll Boutique

I worked with stylist Isaac King, Richard Paden and producer Alxis Rivera to execute this shoot for a Chicago boutique.

This is one of my top 5 photos of all time. It was a great collaboration between the models and the whole crew. The idea just sort of came about organically. One person suggested the girls fight over a purse and we took off from there. All we needed to come up with was some prop styling, lightning and direction: “Act like you’re going to smack the F#$% out of that bitch,” and “Maggie, you gotta look like she’s trying to kill you!”Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â Stylist Richard Paden originally wanted the shoot to convey that the models ware on their way to a concert or other evening event, but in the end was instrumental in staging this stunning image.

Chicago Fashion Advertising Photography: Alhambra Pallace

Chicago fashion advertising photography: What do you do with 14 models, three make-up artists, two hairstylists, one fashion stylists and four assistants on a Sunday? Easy, take over a night club.

While celebrating a friend’s birthday, one of the managers of Alhambra Palace approached our table and asked if we thought they should have a gay night…. a few conversations and a few weeks later we were producing advertising images for the event. Here is a video and some pics from our 8 hour shoot.

Stylist Isaac King preps Brett Love for the shoot. King noted, “I remember being so nervous about shooting in this place. Afterall its like a 25 million dollar restaurant! I was like, ‘if anything is broken or destroyed, then we are gonna be chained to the kitchen sink for the rest of our natural lives!’ LOL.”

“”It was so much fun working on this project, I had just moved to Chicago and this was my first photoshoot (in the city).Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â I remember us (Models Brandon (R) and Mimeki ((2nd R)) flirting with each other and then she put her finger on my lip and that was the shot.” – Model Brandon “I booked my friend Shaya Ali for this shoot.” Stylist Isaac King explained. “She only had one look…but she only needed one! Cause she killed it in this gold dress! One of my all time favorite examples of my work. Alas….she’s my muse.” However, he seems to get a new muse every week. Last week it was a Blasian model from Ohio.

“Asking straight guys, to play gay is always touchy. I booked my friends fianceÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â JacobÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â (L) for this shoot. And afterwards I’m thinking ‘please don’t let this be the catalyst for a pre-wedding-divorce!’ LOL…They’ve set the date btw!” – Stylist Isaac King

“I was trying to ignore the fact that Rhae’s heel was in my crotch, and I was kind of in a weird position. But again the Purple hair helped to make me stand out. LOL ” – Modle Brandon (R)
