I’ve had nothing than trouble with my 3 Drobo’s, the first crashed and took all my pictures with it. Nothing could be recovered even with the assistance from DataRobotics (Drobo) I lost over 3TB worth of data. The second unit almost burned down my house, the unit melted inside, the drives are smolten into the chassis, no data to recover and again I lost 6TB of data. 17 Years of work has been lost, my dreams to exhibit my pictures throughout the world has been taken with it. I’m a celebrated artist, I’ve had my work exhibited in NewYork, Times Square and Miami, Art Basel.
Due to the loss of all my work I’ll never be able to exhibit my work ever again, so my thoughts on the Drobo’s: I would never, ever recommend this brand to anyone, they are very unreliable, prone to breakdown. I’m a IT storage architect and work for international and public broadcasters, healthcare and research. If you need a backup that works just go with Synology or QNAP, couple them with a backup in the cloud and never worry again. Drobo’s are not suitable for data storage.

Hi John, I have two Drobo’s I use for my personal home network, not a business. I was using them for two sets rate purposes until one fatal day. We have a power outage and though One of my Drobo’s booted up and the drives were green, I could not access it through File Explorer or the Drobo App. I was freaking out. It was out of support and Drobo wouldn’t help. I researched the internet and the Drobo community. I literally had to fool with accessing the firmware through terminal prompt commands and somehow miraculously was able to access it through the Drobo App. At that point I had to run diagnostics that took a week which then reflected a bad drive. I replaced it and waited several more days. After about two weeks of stress I managed to get to my data in tact! At that point, I started using one Drobo to sync my most critical data. In the end, like you I have over a decade of use of my Drobo’s. The only thing I wish my Drobo’s had where the Drobo Apps now available, like Plex. Thanks for your review!
