Finding a location at the Alder planetarium for this portrait of Rubina Isaac for The New York Times was harder than you would think. I needed something that would obviously say planetarium, so I came up with these two images.

One of my favorite techniques is to use CTO filters (plastic gels that make neutral light look like old fashioned light bulbs) on my lights so that when I tell the camera to compensate for their warmth, the camera makes the rest of the world look blue.
The New York Times published a story this morning, which included one of my photos, about mutual fund managers. I also shot this image on the same assignment. I was blown away at the opulence of their offices, located just off of Chicago’s Magnificent mile in a 100-plus year old antique filled mansion. I knew right away when I saw the French room that this is where I had to shoot their portrait.
